The Chrono II is not the same watch as the first Sheffield Chronograph of 2024. That Chrono had a glass exhibtion back that showcased a ST 1901 mechanical movement. That movement is no longer available and subsequently that model will not return.
The new Chrono II is not a compromise. It has the same dial detail with a new classic black dial with white subdials…the reverse of the white dial and black subdial version. Both are based on examples of 60’s Sheffield Chrono dial designs.
Chrono II is powered by the innovative Seiko VK64 movement, also known as a hybrid movement or a mecha-quartz. A hybrid movement giving you the best of two worlds combining quartz precision and mechanical features like a sweeping seconds hand and instant reset chronograph.
The mecha-quartz movements are used to drive the chronograph. The timekeeping function is controlled by a quartz movement whereas the stopwatch features of the chronograph are managed by a mechanical component and a sweeping seconds hand unlike the tick of a quartz seconds hand. These functions are sustained by a shared power source in a single battery. The result is the reliability of a quartz movement and the intricacy of mechanical components in its chronograph function.
The Chrono II maintains the original 316L Steel Body with a new engraved case back as well as 10 ATM water resistance, anti-glare Sapphire crystal and solid FKM rubber strap. The Chrono II remains a great Sheffield value at $198.00 USD.
