Sheffield Chrono II Blue Panda
There's a particular kind of pleasure that comes from strapping on a watch that just looks right the moment it hits your wrist. The Sheffield Chrono II Blue Panda is one of those watches. I've been wearing mine regularly, and at this price point, it continues to punch well above its weight class.
The Blue Panda dial is the clear star of the show. The crisp white main dial is anchored by blue subdials that shift character depending on the light — a deep navy indoors, a vivid sapphire when the sun catches them. It's a genuinely beautiful execution of the panda layout, and the contrast between the white field and the blue registers gives the watch real visual energy on the wrist without feeling garish. Sheffield got this right.
The Chrono II is powered by the Seiko VK64 — a hybrid mecha-quartz movement that combines quartz precision with mechanical features, including a sweeping seconds hand and an instant-reset chronograph. Sheffield That sweeping motion on the chronograph hand is something you'd typically only find at a much higher price, and it lends the watch a feeling of quality that the specs alone don't fully capture. The chrono itself works flawlessly — pushers are crisp, the reset is instantaneous, and the whole mechanism inspires confidence.
Build quality follows the Sheffield formula faithfully: 316L steel case and caseback, sapphire crystal, and 20 ATM water resistance Sheffield — the kind of specification sheet that makes you do a double-take at the price tag. This isn't a watch that asks you to make excuses for it.
That said, two wishes have surfaced after living with this piece. First, the rubber strap is perfectly comfortable and wears well day-to-day — but the Blue Panda dial deserves a leather strap with a deployment buckle. The elegance of that dial calls for something a touch more refined at the wrist, and a quality deployment clasp would elevate the wearing experience considerably while keeping the convenience of a quick release. Second — and this one matters — the running seconds hand moves with quartz beats rather than a sweep. On a watch with a sweeping chrono hand, the contrast is noticeable. A true sweeping seconds hand would bring the dial to life in a way that the current setup simply doesn't.
Neither of these points diminish my affection for the watch. The Sheffield Chrono II Blue Panda delivers an honest, well-built, thoroughly enjoyable chronograph at a price that makes the broader watch market seem overpriced by comparison. It's earned its place on my wrist, and it wears every day like it belongs there.
